To install the Now SMS/MMS
Gateway software, you will need a PC running
Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows
XP.
The Now SMS/MMS Gateway
also requires a connection to an SMSC (Short
Messaging Service Centre) to interface with
SMS and MMS networks. An SMSC connection
can consist of one or more of the following:
GSM
Modem – A GSM modem or phone connected
to a PC serial port (or to a USB port with
an appropriate modem driver).
SMPP
(Short Message Peer to Peer Protocol)
– A TCP/IP connection over the internet
or a private network to a service that supports
v3.3 or v3.4 of the SMPP protocol.
UCP/EMI
(Universal Computer Protocol / External
Machine Interface) – A TCP/IP
connection over the internet or a private
network to a service that supports v3.5
or v4.0 of the UCP/EMI protocol.
HTTP
(Hyper Text Transport Protocol, e.g., the
standard protocol for the “web”)
– A TCP/IP connection over the internet
or private network to a service that accepts
SMS messages via an HTTP “GET”
based protocol. (This protocol allows you
to chain multiple Now SMS/MMS Gateways together.)
The installation program
for the Now SMS/MMS gateway software is
self-explanatory. It will prompt for a directory
in which to install the software, and will
then proceed to install the software into
the specified directory.
The installation will create
a program group named “NowSMS”,
which contains 4 entries:
-

Now SMS/MMS Gateway.
-
